Dynamic Queries and Ad-hoc Reports
Break-out 11

Pivotier’s Query Designer and Ad-Hoc Reports are designed to enable non-technical users to design their own reports against their Dynamics NAV data.

The Query Designer allows you to pre-define table relationships and field selections to create report metadata.  This makes it easy for end users to create ad-hoc reports without any technical knowledge of table and field properties.  Building queries also safeguards against inefficient database reads while providing additional secured access to data by table and field.  Most importantly, Pivotier queries handle NAV data nuances such as flowfields, option fields, field captions and Boolean fields to assist in generating dynamic Transact-SQL JOIN and UNION statements for use with other development tools (e.g. Report Builder and Visual Studio Report Designer) and, of course,  with Pivotier reports.

The Ad-hoc Report designer leverages existing queries to generate reports using the Microsoft Report Viewer, as well as to incorporate advanced Report Definition Language (RDL) controls for sorting and organizing data, charting and data visualization using indicators.

Some key features:

  1. Leverage Report Viewer system-wide with its inherent capabilities for PDF/Excel support
  2. Use the power of your web-based SSRS application
  3. Font family, color, weight, style
  4. Justifications and underlining
  5. Negative numbers in red
  6. International paper sizes
  7. Page orientation and margins
  8. Report header and footer definition
  9. Regional settings support
    1. Decimal formats
    2. Dates
    3. Units of measures (RDL inches versus metric)
  10. Sort able columns
  11. Time zone support for NAV dates
  12. Graphical indicators
  13. Page, sort and group regimen resolved
  14. Integration to common charts
  15. Hyper linking to NAV for drill-down from reports
  16. Currency symbol formatting based on NAV Currency Code properties
  17. Multi-language caption generation and support

NAV to SSRS/RDL “nuances”

  1. Generate Dynamic SQL for Flowfield resolution
  2. Translate NAV filters to WHERE clauses
  3. Option Field caption translation
  4. Boolean field caption translation
  5. Resolve Company/Table/Field names for SQL and for RDL
  6. SQL Server decimal precision error resolution
  7. Integration with NAV security to enable report sharing with other users
  8. Enable “OR” filter (e.g. Country is Denmark OR City is London) – not possible in base NAV.

Developer Aids and Utilities

  1. SSRS Report Model generation
  2. Dynamic Transact-SQL for creating SQL views
  3. Integration to SSRS API for publishing reports into folders
  4. Create Query metadata using NAV object properties
  5. Generate complex SQL Select statement from queries
  6. Ability to create UNION views to assist with data anomalies such as invoice/credit memo data or purchase/sales document data.
