NAVUG Forum 2010 Green Initiatives
The NAVUG Forum Planning Team is committed to reducing Forum's environmental "footprint" by selecting post-consumer recycled/recyclable materials and reducing waste.
We'd like to share some of the changes we implemented at Forum 2010:
- Nearly all marketing efforts completed via email and online to minimize paper usage and waste.
- Integration of news, agendas, and announcements into continuously updated "Spinners" to be displayed electronically in each meeting room and throughout the conference, reducing dependency on printed materials.
- Conference attendees were encouraged to recycle their attendee bags and attendee name badge holders for reuse at other conferences and events.
- Recycled and recyclable materials for signage and banners were selected over
non-recyclable, first-use materials whenever possible. If recyclable/recycled
materials are unavailable, we worked to create designs that will allow re-use at
future events.
- Reusable water bottles with water filling stations throughout the conference available as an alternative to single-use bottled water.
- Exhibitors and sponsors encouraged to consider green-friendly giveaways and minimal print materials for distribution at their booths.
- Meeting rooms equipped with motion-activated lighting, reducing power consumption by deactivating room lighting when a room is not in use.
