NAV ADMIN TIP: LOGGING ONTO NAV AS A DIFFERENT USER

Thanks to my friend, Per Mogensen from MergeTool.com, for reminding me about this tip while he was teaching me Easy Security!  I had seen it before but was never successful in using it because it does not work with a Windows shortcut. Per showed me that it will work when you pin the NAV icon to your taskbar (right-click the icon in the task bar and click “Pin this program to taskbar”).

Once the NAV icon is on the Windows Taskbar, you can right-click the NAV icon and then hold down the SHIFT key while right-clicking the Microsoft Dynamics NAV link in the pop-up menu.

This will result in another pop-up menu with an option to Run as a different user.

For any Dynamics NAV security administrator, this tip can be very helpful when testing and troubleshooting NAV security because you can now create a test user with security that is identical to one of your users and you can test and troubleshoot without having to log in and out of windows. You can also have two (or more) sessions of NAV open simultaneously with different users logged on.

Lewis,

Thanks for this awesome tip.  When testing security we would always have to log in to another computer, typically our Remote Desktop server in order to log in using the desired test account.  Thanks again for sharing.
