An early Christmas present

It’s probably not what you have on your Christmas list this year, but today Microsoft released for general availability… drumroll please…

Dynamics NAV 2018!

If you’ve not been following too closely to the product news and roadmap over the past year, this is HUGE! Earlier this year there were a lot of questions and some confusion as to NAV’s future, but as Microsoft presented at Summit, their firm, ongoing commitment to the product we love is solid and evident. Following today’s release, there will be a Dynamics NAV 2018 R2 released in the spring. The subsequent release is exciting as well – Microsoft is re-branding Dynamics NAV to align with their overall strategy, as well as, the full functionality of the application will be available BOTH in the cloud and on-prem. You can read more on the news in this article published by our partner MSDynamicsWorld.

As always, we’ll keep you abreast of changes and equipped to make the proper strategic decisions for your company and your team. Microsoft will be repeating their keynote presentation from Summit as a webinar in January (watch your weekly Events Update for details), so you can hear directly the product roadmap. We’re also assembling a variety of training opportunities for 2018 around evaluating the cloud option and upgrading, so you can take advantage of the significant innovations in and around Dynamics NAV. If you’ve not seen before, we have a page on our website dedicated to resources for the latest release, which you can find here. Of course we need to update it now, however, you’ll find links to the blogs of some our Microsoft MVP members for more information on Dynamics NAV 2018 and the roadmap.

I also want to make sure that you were aware that mainstream support for Dynamics NAV 2013 and 2013 R2 is ending on January 9, 2018 (extended support will continue). You can read the announcement from Microsoft here. If you’re still on those versions, talk to your partner soon about upgrading. There have been so many changes and new capabilities in the now four versions since then.

It is a good day to be part of the NAVUG community!
