For The Love of NAV! Success & the Admin!             By Holly T. Kutil 02/14/19 I am grateful for a dear friend and mentor in the NAV space, Cynthia Priebe, it was our first encounter back in 2008 that sparked the flame that ignited into the blaze of passion I have for our beloved ERP we have called Navision, NAV and now Business Central.   It was a simple encounter where she pointed out that typing "t" in a date field would fill in the current date of 02/14/19 or "today's" date.  That tip sure seems like a small thing, but when you work in an ERP and type in the date 02/14/19 more than 100 times a day . . . It becomes a "BIG" thing!   That ...

A Successful Admin Is Not An Island! Success & the Admin!             By Holly T. Kutil 01/30/19   If you are an ERP Administrator and you find yourself sitting in a corner office or the basement, (depends on how much your boss likes you) looking out the window or staring at a computer monitor, waiting for the rest of the employees to knock on your door, I am here to tell you that you are doing it wrong.  If you have not found a group of ERP Administrators to network with on a regular basis, again you are doing it wrong.  An admin cannot live on an island and cannot do it alone so today we are going to talk about how to thrive and not just survive!  ...

My Role as the Gatekeeper Success & the Admin!             By Holly T. Kutil 01/16/19   I think it would be ridiculously entertaining to have a business card that read…Holly T. Kutil, Gatekeeper, don't you?  At first thought you may not think being the ERP Administrator and the Gatekeeper have anything to do with one another, but I am here to share my thoughts on just how this role relates to you as the ERP Administrator, your company and your partner.  The Gatekeeper, a person in charge of a gate, usually to identify, count, supervise, etc., the traffic or flow through it, a guardian, a monitor, a person who controls access. Is it starting ...

Hello BCUG!  My name is Savanne and I work for Celero Solutions - an IT company based out of Canada.  Our offices are located in Calgary AB, Regina Sask and Winnipeg MB.  Celero spent time in 2018 looking at ERP solutions and we believe  D365 Business Central is a best fit for the organization.  We have had extensive talks with Microsoft vendors, but those talks are on hold for the moment.  Before we move forward with D365 BC, we’d like to get some time with a non-vendor-affiliated consultant who has a wealth of experience in D365 BC (or D365 NAV, its predecessor).  The SME would be someone who could review our business requirements, help us build out a ...

ERP Admin…What is that? Success & the Admin!             By Holly T. Kutil 01/19/19 Many titles are given to the role of ERP Administrator , such as the IT Manager, Business Analyst, System Manager or Admin, and in some companies CIO (Chief Information Officer) and of all of them past and present my favorite is NAV Admin.  I was fortunate to work at a company that saw the importance and necessity of employing someone to keep a finger on the pulse of the company’s heart beat through their ERP, technology, and automation.  Not all companies see the need for someone in that position or feel they have the luxury of allocating funds to this position ...

Having embed PowerBI in Business Central is well known fact, but recently in Fall ’18 release, Microsoft made it even better because now you have already added PowerBI reports on all pages where they were planned to be. OK, it is nice to have and it can be time saver, because you don’t need to waste your time to add reports to page-by-page. But what if you are not satisfy with it how these reports looks like? If you want to change something? Previously it was locked, but now… Now it looks amazing. You don’t need to leave your Business Central environment… everything you need, you will find in your Web Client (of course I’m speaking about cloud version ...

All those hashtags can be helpful, but they also can be challenging for our large fingers on those small smart phone virtual keyboards. If you use an Apple iPhone or iPad to send your Tweets and other social medial posts, this tip can help you save some keystrokes. You can ceate some short codes to represent common hashtags and phrases like @NAVUG #NAVUGSummit or anything else that you include frequently in your posts.     Simpy go to Settings, General , Keyboard and then Text Replacement on your i-device. Is it possible to use NAV to track non-financial data?  (i.e. Headcount).  We have found some documentation on simulation entries but not sure if that's the right track.

Now that User Group Summit 2018 has come and gone, this blog may be a little late, but still may be useful the next time you are traveling (User Group Focus?).  I had a long trip from Philadelphia to Phoenix and thought I could pass some time reading the current issue of BCUG | NAVUG magazine.  Unfortunately, I had not yet received it in the mail, so I figured out how to download it to my iPad. Here are some simple steps to download BCUG/NAVUG Magazine to your iPad or iPhone.  If you know of a better or easier way, please post a reply.   Step 1:  Go to NAVUG.com and scroll to the bottom of the home page for the site map (or simply go to:  https://www.navug.com/resources/magazine ...
