  • 1.  Best way to archive inventory/sales data

    Posted Apr 21, 2022 08:04 AM
We have a few clients where inventory tables such as Item Ledger Entries and Value are getting into the millions of records.  The size of these tables are causing some issues with other parts of the system such as Adjust Cost - Item Entries, lookups and other areas.  For many of the entries, say older than 6 months, they would like to still be able to see that data but the information is not really relevant on a daily basis, or need to be part of the standard tables.  Not sure if means creating new tables to hold that info or an archive company or something else?

Has anyone had experience with an archive utility or thoughts on how to best archive/move the data out of the core system tables?

    Thanks!

    Paul,

I have not come across this issue, though in NAV in older versions it was a problem as Adjust Cost took ages to complete. We addressed by running Adjust Cost Daily in the overnight and all was OK. In BC, I do have customers with ILE's in the millions and have not seen nor heard of performance issues.

You could always create filters that filter out posting with a date older than X. So if you use 6M, create a Setup on Inventory Setup saying months to filter out, then when the page opens its pre-filtered.

    Just a thought.
    Thanks,

    Steve
