All I can say is WOW!
Of course, I have heard of document management before, but I never really knew what that meant. Well, after Gary Scopel's demonstration of Datahaven now I do. Thank you Gary for a fantastic presentation at yesterday's Chicago BC/NAVUG chapter meeting.
So, what does it do. Well it is actually a layered product. First and foremost, it is a document storage and retrieval system that works like Zetadocs on steroids. Don't get me wrong, Zetadocs is a fine product. My only disappointment is that Zetadocs does not offer an on premise version for Business Central. That being said, the folder structure Datahaven presents in a Factbox is amazing.
The next layer is workflow. It does not replace Business Central workflow, but it offers bells and whistles that Business Central does not. They actually complement each other.
The final layer is their OCR. Where this shines is when matching vendor invoices to posted purchase receipts. If you attach a barcode label to the document before scanning it, the performance is nothing short of amazing. It will work with Customer Purchase orders, but it can be tedious to setup.
Overall, it was a great meeting.
FYI – our next chapter meeting will be September 17th and our guest speaker will be from Wolterskluwer. Watch your E-mails. We will be creating the event after we receive their agenda for the presentation.
