NAV Developer License

    Folks,

I just wanted to find out if there was a way to get a personal/individual NAV Developer License file. I know when I researched this topic a while back I did find that you could get one for $25,000, however, I am no longer able to find any information on it right now.

Can someone point me in the right direction.

Will appreciate all the guidance that I can get at this point.

    Thanks,

    Anu

    Hello Anupama Vadlani,

It is relative simple.  I take it, that you are a registered End-User with a valid maintenance agreement.

You order the granule from your normal NAV Partner, who will request your license to be updated with the 2 required granules.

That is in reality all there are to it.

Should your partner deny to order the granule on your behalf; then you either change partner or complain directly to Microsoft.  Any customer have the right to buy any granule they want; and it is not up to the partner to make decisions around this.

Secondly.  As End-User you will have full access to all standard objects in your license; and the objects in the "Customer Range" you have purchased access to in your license.

The "Customer Range" are objects numbered between 50,000 and 99,999

If you have any official Add-On in your license you cannot expect to access to see or change these.

I hope the above answer your question.

    Kind regards

    Anu,

The NAV Application Builder developer license is priced at $8,000.00 with a 16% annual mntc.   That should be all you need.

The NAV Solution Developer license is also available and is priced at $28,000.00 with a 16% annual mntc.   However, this license is used if you want to change the actual program logic in NAV (i.e., posting routines).   Doing this is rather dangerous territory to venture on, as it will truly put your NAV installation "out on an island."   As I understand by doing this you're on your own pal and will cut you off from support from Microsoft if you run into issues.  Not good.

Your NAV Partner should be able to help you with this purchase.  If not for some reason, give me a holler and we'll try to help.

Just a quick addition, the license that you receive, assuming you buy both the Application and Solution Developer granules will not give you the same access as a Developer License that your partner has. Microsoft and your Partner may tell you that they are the same but there are things that are different. I'm speaking from experience, we were not able to run the upgrade toolkit for example.

For $36,000 you might really want to consider what you desire to do with the developer's license. Oh and one more thing, the license is not for an individual, it is for the company.

    Good luck.

I have to agree with Jeff about dangerous territory.  I am a pretty savvy end user and love to dabble...a NAV backyard mechanic if you will.  Our primary developer is wise for discouraging me from having access to that license :)

Speaking from our old NAV where we had some backyard mechanic work done....it is a nightmare to fix bad mods.  Be very careful.

    Happy coding! :)

The developer licenses are restricted by the object range in the license.

A partner has access to a much larger range - all of 50000 to 99999 for example.

On a slightly different note, I'm doing a session on why and end user might consider a development licenses and what the challenges are at Summit this year which could be of interest to you.

Follow up question on DEV lic...

Is it true that anyone that installs the default CRONUS demo database has the ability to make POC DEV changes to objects?    All or just some?
