Issue with Avalara CertCapture and Customer Master/Branch Accounts

    Good afternoon,

Hoping someone can help us out with some issues testing Avalara CertCapture.  We have a number of customers accounts configured with multiple ship to addresses. These are branch locations.  These branch customer accounts are also set to Bill to a master customer account using the bill to customer number field on the customer card.

If we configure a multi jurisdictional tax exempt cert in Avalara CertCapture, link it to the master account and enter a sales order for the branch account, Avalara sees the flowed down tax exemption as long as we are shipping to the sell to address of the branch.  If we attempt to ship to one of the ship to addresses on the branch location Avalara does not see the flowed down tax exemption from the master account.

I cant imagine that this scenario is unusual and was wondering how others have worked through this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hey Richard

Maybe I'm just delusional, but wouldn't you configure the Avalara to the individual "Branch/Ship To" customers? The "Bill To" customer is the entity that will have the A/P. The Sales Tax is driven by where the shipment was sent, not where it's billed.

If we configure the multi jurisdictional cert at the branch level it flows down to the branch ship to's but this would require us to manage the tax exempt cert at the branch level.  In our case there are hundreds of branches that are covered by this multijuridisctional tax exempt cert.

Avalara claims our first method is the correct way but it does not seem to flow down to that third level of Master/Branch/Ship to.  It will flow down properly if we ship to the sell to address of the branch which shows the inheritance is working to some level.

Sounds like Avalara has to work this out. Good Luck!
