Overdue approval notifications

    Good morning,

We are using NAV 2017.  In June, three separate purchase invoices were submitted with due dates of 6/11, 6/17 and 6/18 respectively.  The invoices due on the 17th and 18th were both for the same vendor.   All three invoices were approved on 6/17.

The first two invoices were paid (remaining amount = 0) and are now in posted purchase invoices.  The third invoice has remaining amount but has also been moved to posted purchase invoices.

An approver within the company is getting notification emails saying that these three invoices have pending approvals, but that person is not the user who should be approving these invoices as defined in the approval user setup.  All three invoices appear to have been approved by him (I'm assuming through the link in the approval notifications).

When I look at the posted purchase invoices, I noticed that two of the invoices were modified by a user who does not have an approval setup although I'm not sure that is relevant.

When i look in Sent Notification Entries, there are no records for the daily notifications that are now going out other than those that were sent before 6/17.

It feels like we have a loop somewhere but I don't know where to look.

Does anybody have any advice on where I should look to prevent more bogus notifications?

    Thank you in advance,

    Pat

Do you have any modifications in the approval process? How often is he getting the reminders, and how frequently does the dispatcher job run on the job queue? That might be a good place to start tracking down the issue. If you are not seeing them in Sent Notification Entries, I wonder if it is the same notification entry being sent repeatedly because NAV is unable to mark it as sent for some reason, rather than a new notification being generated over and over.  Check Notification Entries (not "Sent") and see if there are some entries there.

Hi Morgan - thank you for your reply!

The user reports receiving the notifications daily.  Jobqueue runs once daily and corresponds to the email time stamp.  I don't know if we have modifications in the approval process but can check with our partner to see if they can track it down.

I looked in Sent Notification Entries but there was nothing to show in this view :/

    Thanks Patrick,

In your search bar, enter "Notification Entries". There should be two options: "Notification Entries" and "Sent Notification Entries". You want to select the first. These are un-sent notification entries, and this is what the dispatcher job is using to send emails. Once the job runs, it should be marking them as "sent" and they'll move to "Sent Notification Entries".

Edited to add: I re-read your response and I think you said "Sent Notification Entries" but meant "Notification Entries". If there is nothing there, then I would check with your Microsoft partner to see if there is some modification to this process that is causing the repeat emails.

You are correct - I checked Notification Entries in NAV but typed SENT Notification Entries in my response to you...  Notification Entries was blank in NAV so I will get with our partner to see what they can determine...  Thank you for your advice!
