Inventory Picks Printing Before Scheduled Line Ship Date

    Hello Everyone,

We have been having a consistent problem regarding inventory picks printing before the scheduled ship date on the order lines.  We have a Mod in which our pick batch looks at the ship date on the sales order line not the header.  This helps us ship orders cleanly line by line over the course of days, weeks, or months.  For the most part this Mod does seem to work but every other order prints weeks or months before the scheduled date.

An example of what our scheduled out orders look like is below.  This order in particular printed a pick today 2/20/19 but the first line is not supposed to ship until 4/22/19.  Our pick batch filter is always set to the day of to print as well, there is never a date range.

Overall, we are trying to determine the root cause.  Our NAV support who implemented the mod has not been able to determine what is triggering orders to print early.

Does anyone else have a mod that is similar perhaps?  We just want to know if it could possibly be something we are doing incorrectly or if it is a programming issue.

    Thank you,

Since your partner wrote the modification, they should be able to troubleshoot the issue.

Do you have a test system and can you reproduce the issue there?  If you can, you should get your partner on a screen-sharing session and run through the excercise where you can reproduce the error.  They should be able to run the debugger on the process and also compare the "good" orders to the order that are having picks created early.  There could be a variable in the programming that is not being reset or some incorrect logic.  Maybe the modification is looking at the wrong date.

Sounds to me like a programming issue. If I were in your shoes I would ask the partner to show you the code they are using to filter by date. If you are not familiar with programming code have them walk you through how the code works and where it is selecting the records for the batch. You may be able to see something. Maybe they are filtering the wrong field or on the header tables instead of the line table? Could be an IF statement with a typo which makes some orders get selected differently than expected. Any number of things.

    Hey Joe,

Does the user print these with some sort of button click, or is this a scheduled Job that runs?  If your database is small enough, can your Partner restore a copy of your database to a point in time just prior to the Print Routine and Debug the process?

    Thanks -- Joe

    Thanks for the insights everyone.

Through a little more testing we found that the most likely cause is another mod we had installed.  The mod involves a pick generating from the posting of a warehouse receipt.  When the receipt posts a pick is created if an item on the receipt is on a released order.  We saw when I received items for an order with future ship dates that it kicked out a pick.  The batch allocation and pick batch print did not catch the date issue since the pick had already been generated from the warehouse receipt function.  It is a useful mod to have but we will have to make sure it does not kick out picks for orders with future ship dates.

    Thanks,
