Service Functionality-Items as Packages

I am looking for advice on how to handle Items as a package.  In the package there will be individual items that are serialized.  I would appreciate any advice how best to setup this up in NAV 2015.

The package will include the pricing, but I need to be able to list the individual items that are included in this package on the sales order and a purchase order.  The items within the package have their own unique serial numbers.  These items will not be processed through production orders, this is a purchase from a vendor then invoiced to a customer through the sales order.  So the process will need to function in the purchase orders as well as the sales orders.

I researched the forum and found the below information from a response of a person asking how to handle multiple serial numbers.  It seems very close to my application.  The response below is from Amanda Mayer date 04/27/17.

Have you considered using the Service functionality and selling those items in a different unit of measure? For instance, if you have 5 of one item in a Box, you could sell it as a box and automatically create the service item. You can see the sale directly on the Customer card, but it will also create 5 service items for that box, each with it's own serial number. I'm not sure if you'd want 5 items, but if you service them as well, that may actually be a good option.

    Teresa,

I think your subject may lead people to skip the post.  If I am reading your post correctly, I do not think you need any of the "Service Functionality" to accomplish your goal.

1.) As I read it, you want the ability to report on the Items, and their Serial Numbers, that are placed together in a package (box).

2.) This could potentially be a pre-arranged package (called a Kit or Assembly in NAV, neither of which requires Production Orders).

For #1, base NAV can print the Sales Order as a Packing Slip, which usually doesn't give you the information you need/want.  To get specific package level detail you would want to look at shipping solutions such as DynamicShip (InsightWorks), E-Ship (Lanham), BC-Ship (Beck Consulting), etc.

For #2, base NAV has the ability to buy and sell Kits/Assemblies.  This functionality allows you to define a "Bill of Materials" (a.k.a. list of Items), which make up the Kit/Assembly.  You can buy/sell the Kit or have it explode to show the detail on the related Sales Order or Purchase Order.  The Assembly BOM can be made up of different Items, with or without Serial Numbers.  Having Serialized components does limit how you are able to process the Assembly Order, to account for capture of the Serial numbers.

Your NAV partner should be able to help you evaluate the shipping solutions or to configure the Kit/Assembly functionality.

    Teresa,

I'm not sure if you are familiar with the add-on named E-Ship from Lanham and associates. This solution will allow you to create packages with unlimited combinations of items/lot numbers/serial numbers at the point of shipping.
If I understood correctly you are drop shipping this packages directly from the vendor to the customer? If this is so you can tie the sales order to the purchase order using the out of the box drop ship/special order functionality which will allow you to complete the transaction wit one single posting.

Let me know if interested and I can provide more details.
