Chart of Accounts security filter

Is it possible to restrict access to what accounts a user can see when navigating to the chart of accounts?  I have users in Accounting that need access to the COA, but I don't want them to be able to drill into payroll accounts.  I set up a security filter on the G/L Account table in the permission set, but that isn't working.
(We do not have Easy Security).

    Hi Yvonne,

You are right the permission sets won't work in this case. The easiest way without any code customization would be to create a new COA page/form limited to all accounts except the payroll account and give access to that page for the regular accounting users. and make the original COA page/Form available only for payroll administrators.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Yvonne,
This is something that many Users would be interested in; however, as of now this is impossible with the out-of-the-box functionality, to the best of my experience. In particular, you can impose certain limitations via Security Filters around Table 17 (Ledger Entries), but this is not going to work because the system needs access to the most recent Entry there to post a new one. This means that if Users need to be able to post anything to G/L, they need access to Table 17 without any Filters which undermines your objective. Thus, your best option here may be quite minor development (has been done and proved to be effective in a similar scenario).

Additionally, if you submit your idea on the Microsoft idea website (, I am going to up-vote. Perhaps, others are going to join as this functionality is long overdue, just share the link.
