Jet Reports File Size

  • 1.  Jet Reports File Size

    Hello,

I have a large Jet Report which I would like to schedule daily. The file seems obnoxiously large, in the realm of 200+mb. When I copy the data and paste into a new excel doc. The size is reduced to 75mb. I have tried running with and without +values. I am on Jet 2019 and up to date on updates.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Did someone else write the Jet Report?  There may be some hidden tabs causing the Jet version to be a larger file.

Have you tried Jet Support? They're usually pretty quick with some useful tips.

I agree, 200mb is obnoxiously large, and probably hard to work with and run daily.  My largest Jet Report is around 40mb, 80,000 lines and ~30 columns.  I think it's a bit too strenuous for Jet & Excel to have that much data.  That file tends to run poorly on viewer's machines, but that could just be our hardware.  I am curious what other people think about these large files.  I suspect that going to Jet Analytics or some other BI tool would improve our performance.

Maybe when you copy and paste you are skipping a lot of hidden rows/columns.  You might be able to reduce the overall file size by consolidating some filters or removing some redundancy.

Are you pulling multiple tables, if so, how many? Doing so can cause large files, especially when you have multiple tabs that you are storing tables, references and turning them into pivot.
Do you have a bunch of "FIRST" queries?
Do you have "NL("Rows","Customer,,") for your NF functions?

With that large file, I would look into Jet Analytics or doing a query against a Data Warehouse.
