We need to print serial number labels for the machines we manufacture. Do you have a suggested vendor that integrates with NAV?

    Thanks.

I have not personally used it yet. But numerous suggestions over the years have been for BarTender from Seagull. https://www.seagullscientific.com/

Here is a video showing integration with BcFood, but they claim to integrate with many ERP solutions on their website. this video should give you a good idea, though.

We've used Bartender to create our barcoded labels for around 10 years now. It's a fantastic program with tons of features but we never did a true integration.
We have NAV/BC create a CSV file in a specific folder on the network and then Bartender's "Commander" program watches the folder, prints the label, and deletes the file. I'm sure there's newer/better ways to do this, but it's been working for a long time with no issues.

All you need to do is create a report in NAV. Hang it off the Production Order (or wherever you enter the serial numbers in NAV). Size it to the labels you want to use. Hook up a label printer and you are set.

We have many clients in the firearms business using our Easy Bound Book add on for NAV or BC and they print thousands of labels with barcodes or without.

We prefer Zebra printers, but any label printer can work.

    Hi Amy,

I support Ron's suggestion if that applies. All you need to do is print a serial no for your machinery...so print it from NAV Report or the other software that you use for your Parts tracking...Print it on a label and stick that to your machines for easy scans for users.

The BarTender from Seagull along with the Silverware BarTender Integration could be a good solution for your situation. Below is a link demonstrating the two products working together in Business Central.  We also have this integration developed for NAV 2018. If you would like, I would love to discuss your specific needs.

Keep it as simple as possible. If you can do it with a NAV report, then that is a great solution.

Ditto on the simple. If it can be done in NAV, and it works for you, then that would be the best option.

We print thousands of highly complex labels a day and have purchased Loftware as a label printing solution.
You design the label in their label designer, then create an XML file in NAV and place it in a folder that Loftware polls.
    Works great for us.

    Hi Everyone,

I'll put in my $.05 on the NAV report vs Bartender.

If I had to create a lot of different labels for different customers (packaging/shipping labels for instance, or custom serial number labels because I need to make them Private Label for a customer) then I'd look at Bartender.

Bartender and others of this kind of program have very easy to use WYSIWYG editors for the labels, support all the weird and different fonts out of the box (QR Codes, Code 128, UPC etc...) that are not always just true type fonts but some times need some coding to make work. This makes it much easier to create lots of different barcode labels without any code.

It's not quite as automated as printing directly from NAV / BC - but way less customization if you don't mind Shipping or Production using a different software package.  Very often they can also be configured to get data directly from the ERP when printing, so you enter an Order No. and they pull the data out.

    Hope that helps.
