creating "items" without using inventory module

We are a franchise organization that currently uses only the Financial Management module of NAV2017, because we have no sales people, inventory, etc. We do, however, host several events each year for which we need to create invoices for sponsors and attendees of different levels & types.

Currently, we create each line on the invoice manually as a direct post to a revenue account. We would like to find a way to set up each of these registration types as a reusable "item".

Is there a way to do this without having to setup a whole warehouse system? For example, could we create items in the same way a consulting company would charge a fee for hourly or contract services – without a defined inventory count?

    Tara

Have you thought about using "resources"? They can replace Items, have a posting group associated to them and run reports just like an item with no inventory.

    Check it out.

    Good Luck

One option would be to use "service"-type items.  These are not service items within the service management module, but item which are not inventories but which will post directly to sales when you post a sales order/invoice.  I wrote an article for NAVUG Magazine a while back on this option.  See the link below for more information:

Dave's plan seems to work great for what you need. I just wish we didn't have to see these items with out regular items but since you don't have regular inventory items. This should work for you.

The problem with using Resources is that you cannot put a resource on a purchase order. Most consulting firms use resources for billing.

Thanks for your suggestions. Both of these options are new to us, so we'll have to do some more investigating to see which would work best for us. At least now we know the search terms we need to start looking! Thanks again.
