Hello,
What you are describing would be a modification. You would need to setup a custom calendar with start/end dates similar to your financial periods, then assign each period to a 'SEASON' dimension value.
Then, when you create a sales order, have the order header look at the custom table above, grab the current season value from the table and insert it on the header, and from there it will be copied to each line item as you create it.
I would actually prefer to build this into a datawarehouse, however, for reporting instead of modifying NAV, similar to what you have described above. But that is just personal preference. I like to limit modifications to as few as possible and only when there is no other option.
Sincerely,
Victor Diercksen

Subject: Dimension Questions
Hi All
Had a few questions about dimensions.
We sell products in different seasons and want to be able to do 2 things:
Assign a product a season (but a single product can sell in more than one season). I don;t think I can have season applied twice to an item, can I? Is there a way to do this that I could use in analysis views
Sales by Season. Our seasons cut-offs change every year. Is there a way to have a dimension automatically assign based on a date (e.g. No 15th to March 20th this year is winter, but next year it might be different. Typically, I do this as part of a report/ETL process where I have a seasons table, but it would be cool to have a way to say if a an order ships in this date range it gets dimension "winter" for example
Thanks
Mark
