We are on NAV 2018 and currently have 4 companies in our database (only 1 of which we use).  1 of the companies is a consolidated company but we do not need it or use the consolidation feature anymore.  I simply want to delete 3 of these companies as we do not need them.

This is straight forward to do this but wanted to check if anyone has run into any issues when deleting a company.  For example if you have Permission Sets, User Groups or User Personalization referencing one of the deleted companies might that cause an issue?

Anyone with past experience in regards to doing this would be much appreciated (and "Yes" I will be doing this in a test environment first).

I am sure you will keep a backup of the consolidation company and any company with transactions you consolidated.   But if you're planning to upgrade in the near future,  you'll want to keep an environment where you can restore those companies in case you get audited.

Be sure you have a plan for handling the SQL Transaction Log file--or else it will grow during this process (and slow down the process too).

If a User Personalization record references that table, then that User Personalization row will be deleted.

Looking good so far, thanks for the feedback!

I have one of my own that I just tripped over that I would like to add. In the Service Tier under the General tab there is an option called "Enable Incremental Company Deletion".  Weirdly this is set to True by default fro NAV 2018.  If this is True it means when you delete a company it removes the record from the company table immediately but sets up a task to delete the SQL tables at a later time.  To me this just brings up too many questions such as "When will it do this?" or "What if I don't have the task scheduler running?".  So I am going to have this value set to False so it will immediately remove all of the data in SQL.

Maybe I'm too "old School" but I would just go to the Search box in NAV and type "companies". I will be presented with all the companies that are found within that instance. As Robb and Greg mentioned earlier, I would go into SQL Server and do a quick backup of the DB before anything is done. Once you have identified which companies are to be deleted, just hit the "X". It will take some time for each company as NAV is deleting each transaction within that company in SQL Server and remove any permissions that are associated with that company. Pretty easy, any admin can do it.
