Backorder process for inventory pick with bin mandatory, lot tracking FEFO

I am looking for a good process to use to manage backorders when using inventory picks with bin mandatory, lot and exp date tracking and FEFO picking?.We also will be using MRP so there is the overlay of available inventory coming from production orders. I believe the shipping manager should run "create inventory pick put away" daily and then if there is a previous backorder, and inventory is now available, a pick will be created. Is this correct?  My question is how do people manage the list of backorders? If I am in customer service, I know any "partial shipments" contain backorder, but I cannot discern which orders in the "sales orders, ready to ship" (released) orders are backorders and which ones actually have pick lists. Also, when we send an order confirmation to a customer we need to show the anticipated ship date, so if an item is backordered we estimate the due date to a future date- but then should we leave that future date when we release the order if the item is on backorder or should we use a date of today, so that the shipment shows immediately in the "delayed orders " list for easier backorder tracking? Thanks for any input

I meant to add that we are implementing NAV 2018
