Chemical Inventory - Safety Compliance Inventory e.g. Flammable add-on?

Hi, quick questions for folks in manufacturing or who handle chemical and potentially hazardous materials.

Do any of you use a field in NAV to flag hazardous items?  For our company, I'm thinking in particular tracking flammable chemicals and hazardous or infectious agents. We don't have a lot, so I'm comfortable with working in a separate alternate system, but wanted to see if there are good best practices out there that people are using, using D365BC.

I had planned to use the 'Category' field for other asset characteristics, and so it might not be available for use in tracking Chemical - Flammable and Chemical - oxidizing and Chemical - Stable.

I also see the 'Attribute' fields which I could consider using.  I am considering using 'Attribute' to capture Grade/Purity for some of our purchased reagents.

    Thanks for any ideas!

    Best,

Hi- we have NAV2018 and we also have hazardous chemicals as well as ship hazardous finished goods. We have used the dimension for this purpose- we have codes for different haz, then it appears on the sales line and the pick ticket (slight mod for pick ticket)  so the guys know if it is is a shipping hazard. I imagine it would not be hard to have the dim show on the BOM part of the prod order or the pick ticket - we have not tried that though
We are also thinking about attributes as a way of tracking grades for chemicals but have not done so yet - even CAS numbers
Let me know how it works out

It may be from an add-on, but we have fields 50010 " Hazardous Matl. Handling Code" and 50011 "Hazardous Matl. Class Code".

We are planning to update our system with an Attribute type called "UN Number", which I think is ok.  It isn't as obvious or visible as you may want.

Eric's information relates to custom fields that we added by a partner to their system.

Item Attributes are nice but limited to the Item List and not fully integrated with other areas. Dimensions sound like a good approach.

We offer the extended chemical tracking functionality through a large ISV addon that would be impractical for you.

    Hi,

Yaveon ProBatch (batch manufacturing solution built in NAV/BC) might be useful for your situation. The core module, lot management, provides an item feature capability that allows you to track and measure item characteristics at the lot level, vs attributes that are at the item level. Tracking grade/purity is a textbook example of how item features can be used. There is also a hazmat module although the basic lot management app might help with what you describe above.

    Best regards,

    George
