Fixed Asset - 'Model Number'

  • 1.  Fixed Asset - 'Model Number'

    Posted 3 days ago
I am mapping fields from our current GP to our new D365BC and looking for a field in the 'Fixed Asset Card' or related tables for the concept of 'Model Number'.

A 'Model Number' field doesn't seem to exist.

Does anyone know where to capture 'Model Number' for Fixed Assets, or why this field might be missing?  Item Description and Serial Number don't seem sufficient, particularly when keeping track of maintenance needs and parts.

    Raija,

There is no field on the Fixed Asset Card called 'Model No.'. However if you are not using Serial No., you can use that field or you have a Description 2 field if that is not being used. Here is a picture of my screen.

    Thank you,
    Steve

Thank you Steven.  That's a disappointing answer for me. I hope 'Model number' is seen as an important field to add in a future enhancement. I can hijack 'Description 2' in the meantime.

Raija, The Service Granule offers a more complete solution.  If you set up a Service Item for each of your fixed assets you can use the standard functionality in Service to track and maintain your owned equipment.

Thanks Robb. I'll have to wrap my mind around what is a 'Item Card - with 'Item Type' = "Service"  vs a 'Service Item Card'.

I'm looking to keep track of 'Fixed Assets' that are our internal equipment and not Items (service or otherwise) that we sell to or maintain for customers. I will hack the 'Description 2' field on the 'Fixed Assets' card to keep that info.

    Raija,

The NAVUG All Stars recorded a number of Webinars in late 2020 for the Get Started: Service Management series.  The recordings are currently available in the NAVUG Website Library.  I don't know if the series will be available when the DAC website becomes fully functional, so you may want to download the series now.
Below is the Title of first in the series and it has what you need to know about Service Items:

Best wishes for a successful conversion.
