Can someone speak to the performance of a manufacturing setup in Business Central and that performance on the Cloud?

We are considering implementing on Cloud to take advantage of the PowerApps, But I don't see much in the way of anecdotal evidence or discussion regarding manufacturing processes and performance of transaction in a relatively high frequency, repetitive transaction environment.

Is there any here in the User Group with such experience?

I am not impressed with the performance of the BC Cloud.  There are times when it is sluggish.  It is okay, but not great.  I would be very apprehensive about moving to the cloud with a company that uses manufacturing functionality.

We are currently supporting multiple clients who are using the Manufacturing module in their BC Online environment.

Regarding performance, the critical factor is always transaction/user counts rather than the use of a particular module. As a general example, if you have 10-20 Work Centers in a single location and have 25-50 shop floor employees executing 50-100 Production Orders per day, there should be no concern in regards to performance when compared to BC On Premise.  And the benefits of being in the Online environment are worth any potential issues.  If you integrations where a high volume of data is being fed into BC or other somewhat unique circumstances, these would be something you would want to discuss with your Microsoft partner to make sure you have the proper deployment.

Of course your question is a reasonable one and Microsoft recently published a webinar and document on exactly how BC Online scales with volume and provides some very specific metrics in terms of what it considers to be a "large" BC Online deployment where further analysis is required.

    hope that helps some,

Thank you Robb.  Moving to the Cloud is a big question these days.  But I am struggling to get descriptions of others' experiences.  It seems Microsoft and the partner network is pushing pretty hard to get companies onto the Cloud.  It would be great to know if current deployments are satisfactory to the users.  Maybe we will get more members describing their experience.

    Hi Robb,

Do you have anything more you can add?  Like a description of the setup, maybe the process?
