Is NAV2017 able to restrict sales of product by country?

  • 1.  Is NAV2017 able to restrict sales of product by country?

    Hi,
We are running NAV2017 and have products that are not licensed for sale in specific countries. Is there a way to restrict product sales to a country in NAV?
    Thanks,
    Don

That functionality would require a modification.

We use Extended Text messages that appear on orders and print on shipping documentation (ex:  "Do not ship to California").

Other than that, you might be able to get creative with pricing groups or postig goups to cause an error or generate an unreasonably high price if an item appears on an order where it is not allowed to ship.

We are implementing this in NAV 2016 using a workflow that our partner is customizing for us. Seems to work well in testing. We allowed for quoting of any part to any country, but the workflow triggers when a SO is created. Step one is that it goes to our EHS/QA guy for approval of that specific part to a given country. We work with chemicals so there are restrictions that can and do change. We have two ways to approve; a big button for USA (home country) as well as a drop down of all countries in the NAV table. Without this approval neither the SO nor the PO can be processed. Hope that helps.PM fmi.

    Hi Don,

My first thought was to use Dimension Combinations to block posting of certain combinations of Dimension values.  So you'd have to set dimensions on your Customers (all of them) and Items (only the ones that are blocked). For example, your Customers could get a Country dimension, and your Items could get a BlockCountry dimension.  So if you wanted to block sales to US for an item, you would set a BlockCountry dimension value of US on that item, and your Dimension Combinations would block the combination of Country>US and BlockCountry>US.  If that item ever became licensed to sell in the US, you would simply remove the BlockCountry dimension value of US from the item.

Obviously this would require a bit of setup and maintenance, and honestly I haven't put a ton of thought into this, so there might be holes in my plan.  I don't have a ton of experience with Dimension Combinations, but let me know if you think this might work.
