    Hi,

I realize that one would need to (at some point) assign the lot numbers to be used or that were used.  And that it wouldn't be as "slick" as it is without lot numbers in that all would simply backflush seamlessly.

However, does anyone out there have a mod that was created to be able to use backflushing on production orders where all components have lot numbers that need to be associated and if so could you share a little about how this works for your business?

We are exploring what options (if any) may or may not exist.

Thank you in advance for sharing..

    Hi Nathalie,

You should be able to assign the lot numbers directly on the Production Order.  To assign lot numbers to the components, you would select the Components button from the Line Menu in the Lines section.  Then once the windows with the components for that Production Order opens, you would select the line to assign the lot numbers and then select Item Tracking Lines from the Line Menu.  Do this for each line that needs lot numbers assigned.

In order to automate the backflush of a lot-tracked component, you would require an obscene level of discipline by the staff on the shop floor to ALWAYS pull the components pulled based on the same (FIFO?) system 100% of the time.  I don't believe this level of discipline exists in most small-mid sized organizations, and so my guidance on this is to never backflush a lot-tracked Item, otherwise, lot-discrepancies between the system and the shelf are inevitable.  These Items therefore have to be "manually" flushed (perhaps using the method described by John Hawkins).

    Nathalie,

Adding to John, Ken, and Kevin's replies... Backflushing components with Lot Numbers, as Ken noted, requires serious discipline. Is your intention to know the Lot Numbers ahead of time or receive the Lot Numbers from the the floor, enter them into the Prod. Order Component Lines and then create the Output entries after and finish the Prod. Order. I am also not sure, since you are a Food Company, if you have one of the Food ISV Add-ons/APPs. My first suggestion would be to discuss what your intention is with this ISV to see if they have this feature or capability. My more practical suggestion would be to look at the overall Production Picking and Output process. Since a User has to Pick the Component, which is Lot Tracked, employing a handheld or tablet process might better suite FoodState. This will insure that the Lot Number is correctly entered and applied to the Prod. Order component and not dependent on an Admin entering it on the Prod. Order component line. It also makes sure the consumption is posted prior to Output entries.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Steve

If you assign the lot on the production order component either manually or via a pick it can be backflushed.
