No more semicolon in email field

As you might have heard, we've just completed our upgrade to NAV 2018. We've realized that you can no longer have a semicolon in the email field at least on Customer, Sales Order and Contact where we've enjoyed using them in the past. We can understand that "maybe" a contact should not have more than one email address but we can certainly imagine wanting to include multiple email addresses on a Sales Order. We know that there is more robust Contact functionality to accomplish this, but we are really looking to see if anyone has an idea or tip on how to put more than one email address in the email field. Or some other creative and simple solution.

    Thanks NAV Community!

Ah, interesting Andrea!  We upgraded to NAV 2018 in March and I'm coming from operations using NAV 2013 knowledge to Sales learning NAV 2018 and we were getting 2 copies of the Sales Order Confirmation in 1 PDF and I was told by our old NAV partner that I needed to set up the
e-mails with the semicolon to stop that from happening ~ however, it's still happening so I don't know what to do but we need to have multiple
e-mail addresses set up for order confirmations and invoices too.

    Hi Andrea,

There is validation Logic added on E-Mail field ,earlier it was not there, So it is not possible to put multiple emails on a single filed without customisation.

It would be better if you can use any unused text type field to store the Information ,however there is "E-Mail 2" filed is available but again this will only allow to store one email address at a time.

    Hi Deepak

We are now using NAV 2015, planning to upgrade to BC.  We also require multiple email addresses, sometimes more than 3 if customers wanted Order Confirmation or Statements sent to multiple people.  So not sure what's Microsoft rationale for removing the ability add semi-colon and what's the alternative to achieve the same in BC or NAV 2018?  Using any unused text fields cannot be the solution unless we customize to instruct the system to also send email to customer from these unused text fields.

By the way, I don't see "E-mail 2" on our BC demo database (Customer table 18).  Is your information based on the latest BC release?  Thanks.

    Hi Leo,

I agree with you, we need to do small customisation to address the multiple email address.
"E-mail 2" field is available on Contact table(5050).

    Hello, all.

If you're using Lanham E-Ship, you can use E-Mail List Entries.

    Hello, All.

We're on 2018 NAV using Lanham E-Ship/E-Mail. There is functionality with E-Mail List Entries that allows storing multiple names/addresses and assigning them to specific documents.

We have E-SHIP but don't see the E-Mail List entries.  I think there is another piece beyond E-SHIP for that.  However, we use the Document Layouts
The only caveat is that we found performance issues - pretty sever, if we used a Custom Layout, but the email field does allow multiple email addresses by use of the semi-colon, and if you want to send seperate emails, you just add a second line.

These can be set up from the customer or vendor cards (Under Navigate)  Look for Document Layouts.

There is a little setup that is needed.

I remember that all Lanham components are loaded with initial implementation and then activated per module/granule that is licensed. Yes, there is a separate granule that needs to be activated for E-Mail.

    Hi Andrea!

We have used the document layouts on the customer and you are still able use the semicolons and multiple addresses there. We are still using this in BC.

Chuck, thanks for the tip, that is a good one.  I think that might meet our needs without having to do a mod!
