Cross-Reference No and EDI interface......

We have four large customers whom I am setting up Cross-Reference numbers in our system.   I know the Cross-Reference No. works great when manually entering in the order, but does anyone know if NAV will process and populate the Item number field (No.) properly when it comes in through EDI?

For reference, we are running NAV 2015 and using the Beck Connector to interface with SPSCommerce as our VAN.

Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated.  :-)

You should be able to use your EDI map to accept the Item Cross-Reference and have the order populated with the cross reference and your item number.

    Hi Lewis,

So, in theory, if the EDI is mapped to put the Item number in the Cross-Reference field, then NAV will put the Item number on the order that we have setup under cross references?   Since the cross-reference will change over time, I'm hoping that we don't have to make the changes at the EDI level.   Customer will always order number X but we will ship them Y or Z depending on many factors.

    Sincerely,

Yes, that is how it works for us.  No changes necessary on the EDI map if the Item Cross-Reference is changed.

We are using Lanham's EDI, but it should not be any different.

Thank you Lewis, that is great news.   I was 95% sure this was the right approach, but they as I am starting the project I started to question my thoughts.   It's always wise to get that second opinion.

The Beck integration EDI ports natively support NAV Item Cross-References. You can pass the item either as a barcode cross-references or a customer cross-reference. This will depend on how the trade partner wants to submit the item to you and your system settings.
