alternatives to FastPath for SoD and Audit Trail

  • 1.  alternatives to FastPath for SoD and Audit Trail

    Good morning,

We use Nav 2017 on prem in five different NAV instances for 38 different standalone companies.  We are trying to reconcile and standardize permissions to establish SOX compliant user groups across all of those companies.  We would also like to integrate NAV with AD so that when a user is disabled in AD, the user is also disabled in NAV.

We have looked at a third party software called Fastpath that seems like a good option for segregation of duties and audit trail.  It also has the capability of assessing proposed changes to user permission change requests and setting up temporary permission variances.

Question for the group:  I'd like to get some competitive bids for similar software packages.  In particular, there is a desire to be able to disable access in the application when access is disabled in AD.  Anybody have any suggestions?

    Thank you in advance!

These are not promotions for these firms as I have not personalized used.  They have been discussed and that is about it.  You will have to vet them to confirm capabilities.

I've bought and implemented MergeTool's cheapest option.  It's so cheap that they only allow credit card purchase.  At the time it was $250 USD, which was 3 years ago.  It's a really good option to test out their base functionality which is their recording tool.  You can find their demo on YouTube.  Quick run down.  You need a separate instance of NAV, only 1 person logged in, turn on recorder, and perform duties of said role.  MergeTool's Easy Security will record all the necessary table permission and package that for you.

If you know what you're doing, it's a good tool.  If you're new to NAV, it's won't be as you need to define your actions for each role.

    Hi Patrick,

Based upon your description and knowing little else about your firm, it sounds like FastPath is the appropriate option.  While MergeTool offers great solutions, the actual SOX compliance and audit reporting tools will not be part of this solution.  Innovia really likes Per and his MergeTool solutions, but for clients that need true SOX compliance and audit reporting we recommend FastPath.

    Hi Patrick,

Tom Doran is spot on here.  While EasySecurity from Mergetool is a great tool for setting up security roles, it does not address SOX compliance like Fastpath does.  Fastpath alerts you to SOD conflicts while you set up security roles and provides advanced audit trail reporting.  Fastpath is 100% the recommended solution for this type of functionality for NAV.  It's an excellent tool.

We use both EasySecurity and FastPath.

EasySecurity from MergeTool.com is a great tool for managing user permissions.  You can create custom permission sets, record a user running a process to create a permission set, create permission groups for job roles, and for us most importantly, create field-level permissions.  I am not aware of any alternatives, but one other was mentioned in this thread.

FastPath (gofastpath.com) is a great tool for reporting on your NAV/BC security.  It can help identify who has access to particular objects and it will help you identify segregation of duty issues.  This is the tool that will help you provide NAV/BC security reports to an auditor.  I am not aware of any alternatives, but if you know your way around object designer (pre-BC version 15) and have extra time, with some extra effort, you can do some "who has access to..." reporting.
