Easy Security and Change Log

We recently re-implemented to NAV 2017 and are now looking at adding additional controls through Easy Security. One question I can't find an answer to, since I've never done anything with Change Log, is whether Easy Security makes accessing the Change Log easier. I actually don't know anything about Change Log, but we're having a few growing pains as our department expands and tightening down permissions has become an urgent matter. I need to know if - once we set up specific users with specific permissions - we will be able to run reports to ensure the guidelines set up for those permissions have been followed. (i.e. proper documentation for adding a new vendor, etc.)

I guess my question is this: will Easy Security make it easy to determine which users have performed which specific actions we're watching, or do I just need to learn how to use the standard NAV Change Log? I'm heading into crunch time to get this scheduled and need to have answers for our CFO.

    Thanks for any insight!

ES will not make the change log easier, you just need to learn how to use the standard NAV change log (It's not that hard)

Easy Security would help you manage security but not monitor what is happening. Using the Change Log will capture changes in the data. You will likely need to write additional reports on the change log data to review and audit the transactions.

In addition to Easy Security (which the above responses are correct - will not help with audit tracking of data changes) we also use Lanham's History management add-on.  My users love it.  When you configure change tracking on a table it can install buttons on the associated pages to allow users to see change detail from within that page (see attached).  It allows  my users to get that information themselves without going to IT.   If you'd like more information feel free to contact me or go to Lanham's website.

Similar to Lanham's add-on, I've added buttons to many common areas that pop open a filtered view of the change log. This a quick way to access what you're looking for.

The change log entries generate 1 line (entry) for each field you select to monitor in the change log setup.  I highly recommend choosing the fewest fields possible on the fewest tables.  My VAR originally set us up to monitor all fields on the Sales Header, Sales Line, Purchase Header and Purchase Line.  1 year later the change log entry table was so large it was no longer reasonably accessible in NAV.  We ended up having a developer delete the entries using SQL, then greatly reducing the fields.  For instance, on the sales lines we now only track Item No., Qty and Amount.
