Change Log

Does anyone know if it's possible to specify anything other that the 1st 3 primary Key fields of the table to capture in the change log entry?  For instance,I want to capture when the unit price is changed on a purchase line.  This works fine, but since the primary key of the purchase line table is Document Type, Document No. and Line No. this is all that is captured.  What I would really like to capture is the No. because I want to know which item the price was changed for. I can't even look it up if the purchase order or purchase invoice has already been posted.

Are you archiving your purchase orders?  You could look at an archived PO to find the item.  If you have a reporting system like Jet Reports, you could write a report from the Change Log table and pull in item from the archived PO.

When the price changes you should have an entry with your prices in the Old Value and New Value columns of your Change Log entry.
If you do not see any make sure that the field Price is selected in the change Log setup for that table.

Edit: Sorry it seems you wanted to see the Item No. in that log instead of the current primary keys, it is not really possible without doing a SQL join (You could do that by looking at it from a SQL report or query).

Go to Change Log Setup, Tables, Find Table 39 Purchase Line in the List. Go to Log Modification field and select Some Fields. Click on the ellipsis next to your selection and check Log Modification box next to field 31 - Unit Price ($) or any other field you want to track.

Thanks,  I know how to set up the change log to create an entry when the unit price changes and this is working fine.  I would just like to take it a bit further and instead of capturing the default primary key of the table with this change, I would like to capture the No. of the Item instead.  I am creating an SSRS report for the users and when they see that a price has changed they would like to know what item it has changed for.  I think that since we are archiving if the order is not found on the Purchase Line table I can pull the order from the Purchase Line Archives.  Thanks Lewis for that great suggestion.

    Hi Suzanne,

As you noted, the Change Log report will not include the Item No. on each record. I would use the PO number and Line No. combination to identify the change. You can create a Save View when someone has a question about price changes. Here is a sample:

You can also enable automatic Archiving.

    Cheers,
