Steve,When you say "Against my better judgment... giving access to some Outside Sales Reps..."
I sound like you are concerned about opening up a pandora's box of users outside your network, way outside your time zone, and outside of your control for user training and procedures of how they will use BC/NAV. You are spot-on to think through the ramifications of granting user access out there. In addition, there may be technical challenges of bandwidth latency of running RD sessions, or even just a single monitor screen of HD screen resolution.@KimPeterson's suggestion of a portal that they connect through has the benefit of, a web UI layer that will hide the latency issue AND it will give you control of exactly what they can do (i.e. limit access to only account data for accounts that they are assigned to) (and there are lots of portal options out there to consider, and will give you many other benefits beyond this one issue)You might also explore building on your own or having your partner build a power app that grants them the specific data you want to expose to these users and lets them perform the specific functions/updates that you choose to support in the app.I would also suggest that if the sales team is using a CRM system now, an integration to that system should be considered to provide them the data and functions that they need into BC/NAV that they need in the CRM that they are already using.
Thank you everyone for the feedback. Some great ideas to consider. I really like the idea of using a web UI to help provide a buffer and avoid latency issues. Thank you Lewis Rosenberg, Kim Peterson and Bob Stahr for your suggestions.
This is what makes NAVUG such a great resource!!! I have always enjoyed reading the different approaches to resolving an issue, and sometimes they have been very different. We can have open and honest discussions here and everyone is so helpful. Wish other parts of society would learn how to do this. ;-)
