1.  Related Windows No Longer Follow Next/Previous Pages

Posted 7 days ago

We just moved from 2.6 to 2017, and we are really enjoying many of the new features. There are some that are sorely missed, however. Is anyone else confounded by the absence of the following feature in later versions of NAV?

In earlier versions of NAV, if you had the Comments or Statistics open on a card or form (now called a page, I guess), when you moved to the next record, the Comments or Statistics that you had opened would follow to the next record. It no longer works like this and if you move to a new card, you must re-open the Comments or Statistics. Furthermore, you must close these windows every time if you don't want to end up with dozens of ancillary windows open that you no longer need to see.

We have done things like created a ListPart in the development environment to show the Comments on a new FastTab at the top of a Sales Order, for instance, but this takes up what is now very precious real-estate with the inclusion of the (very helpful) factboxes.

Does anyone else lament this as much as we do?

Hi John,

I have worked with 2.6 version also and agree with you in some aspect the old NAV was better but new NAV does give us so many new capabilities and we love those. The comments /Stats not updating with moving records is a pain sometimes.

I have found Notification more helpful than using comments. We use comments for keeping track of specific conversations but notifications are pretty handy to keep track of pertinent conversation for a particular document and it flows from card page to list page and is visible in your fact boxes.

Hope this little tidbit helps!

If you are looking at Customer Cards, there is now a Customer Statistics Factbox that you can display.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Your suggestions do make sense, and we're certainly using the FactBoxes to that advantage where we can. For instance, we've customized the Customer Statistics FactBox to show what we are interested in seeing, but running the Sales Order Statistics action button is what we'd like to have follow along as we scroll (which we also can't do anymore) through the Next and Previous documents. Since these are based on ListParts (the subform), it would appear we cannot add these to FactBoxes on the Document-type Pages.

You can absolutely do this on a custom basis.
