1.  Cancel and Reorder messages in MRP - how to eliminate

Posted 8 days ago
We quite often get messages requesting that we cancel the Purchase Order for a date in the future and place a new order with a more current date (date range can be any where from 3 to 5 days and not driven by sales orders).  I am looking for a way to suppress that message.  I would prefer just an expedite request.

The cancel notification is crudely your expedite notification. You can suppress these messages by increasing your buffer days to 3 or 5. This will eliminate the cancel/reschedule items in the planning worksheet and not provide any notification of the need to get the item earlier.

I might add that the buffer is set using the "Default Dampener Period" Field in the Manufacturing Setup page.

The Dampener Period is helpful when the required date is delayed (pushed into the future) and you do not want re-scheduling messages. If the requirement moves to an earlier date and you do not have available inventory on the new date, then you will continue to get the messages.

Depending on your version of NAV, the Dampener Period can also be set on individual Item Cards.

Since you are receiving this message am I correct in saying that you are using requisition worksheets?  We ran into this issue and found that if we set our Planning Flexibility to None that it would not suggest to cancel.
The thought behind the logic is if you chose None it will take what you have and stay with it.  If you leave it at Unlimited it will be just that, unlimited changes.
