Same item, different packaging

  • 1.  Same item, different packaging

    Hi Everyone.

We have the same item bought from different suppliers, the item is the same as is the case qty, but the actual box the item comes in, is a different size from each supplier.  Is there a way to store this info in NAV without setting up different items.

I have looked at SKU's and variants but neither seem to have the fields needed to do this.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    Hi Adam,
Have you considered using a Unit of Measure to represent the two different packages?  They can both be setup as 12 each = Case (or ever how many) but one can say 'XCASE' and the other 'YCASE' to indicate which one needs to be used with which Vendor. The Unit of Measure table also contains the physical measurements to associate with the two different sizes.

Following because this also happens to us sometimes. I do like Crystal's suggestion of using the UoM. Keep in mind Adam though that then any data pulled such as for sales history or inventory forecasting will have to combine both UoMs.

    Hi Crystal
Thank you for your idea, I'll take a look into it, certainly seems more promising than what I'd looked at so far.
    Many thanks :)
